Stories that Move: launched, lauded and invited to the United Nations

The Stories that Move toolbox against discrimination was publicly launched this summer – and has already been recognised with a prestigious educational award and an invitation to the UN in New York.

For information about upcoming seminars and workshop about Stories that Move, see the links below.

The Comenius EduMedia medal for excellent teaching materials was presented by the Institute for Pedagogy and Media in Berlin. The judges said they were impressed by the way Stories that Move used interactive and audio-visual media to help young Europeans think about prejudices, and perhaps empowering them to act.

At the official launch of the toolbox in Berlin in June, Juliane Seifert, the State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, also had warm praise:

“What impressed me most was that so many young people were willing to share their own personal experiences to show ‘you are not alone’,” she told experts from all over Europe at the launch and international conference on 28-29 June. “But Stories that Move does not only empower young people threatened by discrimination, it also provides the means to prevent them discriminating against others – by promoting diversity as a strength of society.”

Now, we are proud to announce that Stories that Move will be presented at the UN headquarters in New York on 2 November 2018, at a conference to mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Kristallnacht 80 years ago. The United Nations Outreach Programme will host a workshop for teachers with a focus on human rights education.

Throughout the coming academic year we will be holding training courses and workshops for educators wanting to get to know the toolbox in various countries, including two seminars at the International School of Amsterdam.

21 November 2018, in Amsterdam (in English)
