Webinar in preparation of International Women’s Day (IWD)

Anne Frank Housewebinar

IWD, 8 March, is a day to celebrate women’s achievements but also a day to raise awareness about discrimination and to take action for equal rights for all women.

During the webinar we will explore ways to spark relevant conversations on gender equality in class using the online toolbox. Stories that Move educators have shared how gender-related prejudices are always part of the conversations they have with their students. In film clips young people share their views and experiences. Although the focus in the toolbox is on racism, antisemitism and the discrimination that Roma and Sinti, Muslim and LGBTIQ+ people experience, gender issues effect all young people and are automatically brought up in any exchange on discrimination and standing up for people’s equal rights.

If we want to encourage education without gender stereotypes, we need to take time to honestly and carefully investigate the many ways in which our thinking is based on binary and stereotypical gender norms. Intersectionality, non-binary identities and toxic masculinity are just some of the relatively new terms that young people are using to describe aspects of gender dynamics that are important to them.

The webinar offers a chance to get to know:

  • the stories of young women sharing their intersectional experiences
  • the assignments in learning path ‘Mastering the media’, on advertisements that deal with gender stereotypes
  • the methodology of blended learning and visible thinking used in the toolbox

The webinar will be led by experienced Stories that Move trainers.
